Lighthouse Digest Steps Forward to Help Endangered Maine Lighthouse MuseumLighthouse Digest, a monthly lighthouse history and news magazine, has stepped forward to help the financially strapped Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland.
Tim Harrison, editor and publisher of the magazine, which is published in Maine and has world-wide circulation, said effective at once they will donate $10.00 from each new paid subscription for the magazine that is ordered through its web site at www.LighthouseDigest.net to the Maine Lighthouse Museum.
Dot Black, the interim director of the Maine Lighthouse Museum, said she is excited by the offer and welcomes it wholeheartedly. She said, "Lighthouse Digest has always been generous in helping the museum in many ways in the past, and this is another example of their commitment to help keep our doors open."
Harrison said the donation offer is not exactly new. He said, "Lighthouse Digest has offered a similar program in the past with a special subscription form at museum, but that was only available to those who saw the brochure rack at the museum and used the brochure form that was on display. This is the first time we have made this offer available on our web site to provide the opportunity for people from all over the country to help the museum by subscribing to Lighthouse Digest."
Kathleen Finnegan, managing editor of Lighthouse Digest said that"
Black said she couldn't agree more, saying, "Lighthouse Digest is the only magazine that provides a platform to teach people about the importance of lighthouse history, while keeping them up to date on lighthouse news and activities from around the world. Once people learn about lighthouses, they are more apt to donate or get involved with the lighthouse group of their choice."
"Lighthouse Digest was the first to publish a Doomsday List of Endangered Lighthouses, a program that helped saved many of them," said Harrison. "Now the Maine Lighthouse Museum is on that endangered list, and hopefully, we can, with the public's help, save the Maine Lighthouse Museum."
Harrison said the donation offer is only good on new or gift subscriptions and is only available for a limited time saying, "So, it's important that people act as soon as possible to help save the Maine Lighthouse Museum."
