Released 9/26/09

On Saturday October 31st, 2009 at 1:00 at the Maine Lighthouse Museum at One Park Drive in Rockland,Maine, museum volunteer, Marla Rogers, will present a program of Lighthouse Memories. Marla's father, Ted Haskins, served as a lighthouse keeper from 1927 to 1953 at four lighthouses: at Boston Lighthouse from 1927 to 1937, at Great Point Lighthouse on Nantucket Island from 1937 to 1944, and at Sankety Head Lighthouse, also on Nantucket, from 1944 to 1947. He completed his career as a lighthouse keeper at nearby Owls Head Lighthouse, serving there from 1947 to 1953. Marla has preserved many of her mother Betty's memories from her life as a lighthousekeeper's wife and unofficial assistant lighthousekeeper at four lighthouses. Added to those are her own memories while growing up at two of the lighthouses. Please join us for this free program and a delightful hour of lighthouse memories and stories from the days when lighthouse keepers and their families worked together to keep the lights burning.
